Beach Bash 2012

BEACH CAMP 2012

I just got back from an incredible camp at Port Royal in Port Aransas, Texas. It was hosted my the Southwest Texas Methodist Conference. This was the first "Beach Camp" ever, and I'd say it was a success! I went in to it extremely nervous because I didn't really know anyone that was going. I knew the band, The Mark Swayze Band, because my boyfriend, Callen, is their drummer. But other than them I was pretty worried about who I'd hang out with. I rode to Port A from San Antonio with Callen's church and quickly found my way in to a group of amazing girls that I spent my time with at camp. These girls, pictured above (Me, Mari, Anna, Liz and Amanda), were instant friends. I can't believe how well we clicked! I had a blast hanging out with them and really look forward to times to come.

I also got to spend time with Callen! We almost never get to actually hang out at camps, but this one had enough free time that we got to spend some time together. The last night we had a Luau and Callen and I unintentionally matched :) We do that often, considering we pretty much only wear white V's.

The camp was so amazing. I really felt God just tugging my heart and begging me to put Him "center stage" in my life. It was incredible how much He spoke through Laurinda, the camp speaker. The band was amazing! It had been so awesome watching them grow these past few months! This was my first camp to go to since they released their album in February and I am so amazed by how much God has done in their ministry!

I really had a great time and I am so glad I went. God is good!

Tutorial: Photo Canvas

Okay guys, so I am kind of a picture hoarder. I always get more prints than I need and over the years they've collected quite a bit. I have been trying to think of something I could do with them so they're not just sitting in this shoe box, and my recent purchase of modge podge inspired me.

So back when I was in the process of picking paint for my room, I told my friend Katie that I planned on the walls being a minty green. Katie ended up finding this huge painting at Goodwill that we just loved at the time, but I soon grew to hate it. It really looked bad on my walls, so I decided I'd use it for a project :)

Since filling the canvas with photos would leave space on the top and bottom, I began with painting the edges of the canvas the same color as my walls.

I then laid out the photos I had decided to use! I chose to keep it simple and do one row of horizontal photos, one row of vertical photos and repeat. Using simple math, I calculated that I could do 4 horizontal rows and 3 vertical rows and that would leave about .5 inches on the top and bottom of the canvas. The photos didn't perfectly fit longways, so I had to trim the edges of one photo per row.

I then began modge podge-ing them to the canvas! I would paint some modge podge directly on the canvas, stick the photo down, and brush a solid coat over it. This actually went a lot faster once I got the hang of it! It took lots of modge podge...

Once I finished, I just let it dry! It was a super quick and easy project! I really recommend it for those of you that have extra photos laying around.

Introduction

Hey guys, my name is Abbi and I'm completely new to blogging! I love reading other people's blogs and recently I've had a couple of people tell me I should start my own, so here it goes. I am a freshman at the University of Texas (hook 'em!) and I absolutely love it! I'm majoring in visual art studies for art education. I am a born and raised Austinite and I don't plan on leaving anytime soon. I have a dog named Charlie and I love him like crazy, expect LOTS of pictures of him! I also have a boyfriend, Callen, who is one of the most amazing people I have ever met. Expect pictures of him too :) Most importantly, I love the Lord and I am so thankful for everything He has done in my life. I can't wait to see what He has planned for me these next few years!

I really hope this whole blog thing works out! I will try really hard to keep up with it. Happy reading!
